Are you thinking of selling or trading in that old car, boat, truck, trailer or RV? Why not donate it instead? Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) has partnered with the America's Car Donation Charities Center to provide an easy-to-use, tax-deductible process to donate your vehicle or vessel. Your charitable contribution could make a big difference to help insure the continued success of our marine conservation programs!
SSCS can accept donations of vehicles and vessels from all 50 U.S. states. The process is easy, quick and convenient. And because we do all the work, your time is not wasted trying to sell your vehicle.
Please use this form to donate your car, boat, truck, trailer or RV. Once you submit the form, the towing company and customer service department will contact you via telephone within four business days at the latest. If you need the pick-up sooner, please let us know as we may be able to make those arrangements as well.
If you have any questions you would like answered prior to initiating the donation process, please visit our FAQ below or email us instead of using this form. If you prefer to speak with a Sea Shepherd employee, please feel free to call us at 1-212-220-2302 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm PST).
If you have any difficulty with this form or wish to speak with a Sea Shepherd employee, please call us at 1-212-220-2302. You may also e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Remember, your unwanted vehicle or vessel is tax deductible and makes a positive difference for endangered marine wildlife in our world's oceans.
Sea Shepherd Vehicle Donation Program FAQ
FAQ's for the Vehicle and Vessel Donation Program
1. What can I donate?
A: We accept most vehicles and vessels including but not limited to cars, trucks, trailers, boats and RV's.
2. Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is classified with the IRS as non-profit charitable 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Individual tax situations vary so please check with a tax professional to determine what if any tax benefit you may receive.
3. What do I need to donate my vehicle?
A: We would like the title to the vehicle, but if you do not have it please call us anyway. It is possible that other arrangements may be made.
4. My car hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it?
A: Yes, we are able to accept most vehicles running or not (exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing). To find out if we can accept your vehicle, please submit a donation form.
5. Can you pick up vehicles in all 50 states?
A: Yes, we are able to pick up accepted vehicles in the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii.
6. How is the value of my car determined?
A: In short, the IRS allows you (the donor) to assess the fair market value of your vehicle. The Kelley Blue Book, AutoList.com, and the NADA Guides may be used as helpful references in determining the Fair Market Value of your vehicle.
We suggest you review IRS Publication 4303 (Acrobat PDF file) which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property. If you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader, then click here.
7. How will the car be picked up?
A: We will arrange to have your vehicle towed away by a professionally-licensed, bonded and insured towing company.
8. How long will it take to pick up my car?
A: You will be contacted within three or four business days at the most. If you need your car picked up sooner, please let us know as we may be able to make those arrangements as well.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society uses the services of America's Car Donation Charities Center for our vehicle and vessel donations.
America's Car Donation Charities Center and Sea Shepherd value and respect all individuals and organizations seeking to make a charitable contribution. We understand that you may be concerned about privacy issues that surround the use of the Internet.
We're focused on only one thing: helping you help others in a safe environment. Therefore, we do not disclose information about your individual visits or information that you may give us for your vehicle donation -- such as your name, phone number, address and e-mail address -- to any outside companies except for the use of completing a donation transaction that you initiate. We specifically ask for information about you when you make donations -- such as name, phone number, address and e-mail address -- in order to better provide our service to you. This information will be used solely for the purposes of completing your donation.
When you make a donation, Sea Shepherd will receive the information you provide. Sea Shepherd may retain your name and may use it for future solicitations. If you do not want the Sea Shepherd to retain your information in their donor database, you will need to contact Sea Shepherd directly.
Please consider donations of stock to help support Sea Shepherd
Giving stock is a great way to help Sea Shepherd's efforts to conserve and protect our oceans and their inhabitants.
A gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value that has been owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair market value of the stock. Plus you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring ownership rather than selling the stock.
How to Give
We currently utilize the services of Charles Schwab to handle stock donations. Our account information is provided below.
Please consult with your tax advisor and/or legal advisor. If you have any questions, please contact us by e-mailing email@example.com or call USA (212) 220-2302.
