Celebrating the Life of Artist and Conservationist Stephen Watson
The Stephen Watson Memorial Mural will be unveiled to the public with great fanfare this weekend, August 30 – September 1 in London, Ontario, Canada at Artfusion Fest 3. The 3-day block party includes the unveiling of the mural, live music, live painting, craft vendors and “The Enchantment under the Sea Dance.”
Stephen Watson, the younger brother of Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson, died from lung cancer on August 29, 2012. He had been actively involved with Sea Shepherd since the organization was established in 1977. Stephen was an accomplished and talented artist, and his pieces were intended to promote awareness of the importance of the preservation of the oceans. He donated many of his works of art to ocean conservation organizations, including pieces for auction at Sea Shepherd fundraising events.
The mural, titled “Octopus’ Garden 2” was the last artistic piece created by Stephen before he passed away. Artfusion, a collaborative group of artists, have donated their time to bring Stephen’s last painting to life as a mural on a 30,000 square foot space on the sides of a building in the heart of London, Ontario.
Sea Shepherd supporters in the London, Ontario area are encouraged to attend Artfusion Fest 3 to help celebrate the life and work of Stephen Watson. Sea Shepherd USA Director, Susan Hartland, will be briefly speaking at the event today at 6 pm local time (3 pm PT). Please come out and say hello to Susan, see the spectacular mural, and pay your respects to this compassionate and talented artist who so very deeply loved the oceans.
