For our “From the Cove to Captivity” video contest, Sea Shepherd asked supporters around the world to help us expose the undeniable link between the slaughter of dolphins in Taiji and the captive marine mammal industry. Taiji is ground zero for the international trade of captive dolphins, and it is this trade that continues to fund the killing in the infamous Cove.
Sea Shepherd received impressive videos from enthusiastic individuals who used their talents to be strong voices for the dolphins. All of the staff, crew, volunteers and Cove Guardians at Sea Shepherd would like to thank the dedicated people around the world who have sent in entries. We have enjoyed watching each and every video.
At long last, we have selected a Winner and Second Place Awardee from the entries! As promised, the creator of the winning video will receive $500 USD, a Sea Shepherd prize package including Cove Guardian T-shirts signed by the 2013-2014 Cove Guardians and at least one out-of-production item from the organization’s “vintage vault.” The Second Place Awardee will be awarded a Sea Shepherd merchandise prize package, also to include an exclusive item from our “vault.”
Congratulations to AnaGirlEmpath, the Winner of the “From the Cove to Captivity” contest with her video, “Inextricably Linked: The Truth About Dolphins in Captivity.” This informative video explains the link between the killers and trainers in Taiji and demonstrates the brutality of the drives, slaughter and captive selection.
Another big congratulations to Second Place Awardee, RenaudK, whose very creative video depicts the blood-red waters of the Cove, and reminds us that for dolphins in Taiji, their fate is either death or imprisonment in captivity.
We would also like to award Special Recognition to Megan Rose Taylor, whose video and heartfelt poem captures what the dolphins and whales are forced to endure in Taiji, yet reminds us there is hope through the dedication and Infinite Patience of Sea Shepherd’s Cove Guardians. We will also be sending Megan special Sea Shepherd merchandise.

Thank you to all who sent in a video, and to the thousands of voices for the dolphins around the world for all of your support. Each season is more and more challenging, but we have reached new heights of awareness among the media and public this year that we hope will eventually bring change due to the Cove Guardians and their supporters worldwide. Together we are a global movement of Cove Guardians and we will not stop until the slaughter ends!
