The Sea Shepherd ship Farley Mowat is presently in Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. A small hole about the size of a dime was found on the bottom of the ship. It is an unusual breach as it was not caused by the ice floes. The hole has been plugged with a temporary patch and the inflow of water has been stopped. The ship will need to be dry docked for a permanent repair before proceeding again into the ice.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society intends to remain in the area of the seal hunt into April to oppose the opening of the annual slaughter of seals. Canada plans to massacre over 350,000 seals within the next month.
