On Giving Tuesday We Need You...

Save the vaquita porpoise and other marine species

Save the DateOn Monday, we will officially launch our most ambitious campaign this year, Operation Milagro III. This campaign aims to save the critically endangered vaquita porpoise from imminent extinction. We must raise the necessary funds to sustain this campaign and urgently need your help to save the vaquita.

We therefore ask that you mark your calendars for #GivingTuesday on November 29, 2016 and use this time to help us save the vaquita. #GivingTuesday is a global day dedicated to giving. Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday.

Mike Galesi and the Big G Charitable Foundation Issues Matching Gift Challenge to Sea Shepherd Supporters!

sea turtleTo honor Sea Shepherd's brave volunteers and campaigns, Mike Galesi and the Big G Charitable Foundation is issuing a challenge grant to Sea Shepherd supporters. The foundation will match donations to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society dollar-for-dollar, up to $30,000!

This generous donation comes at a very important time, as we urgently raise funds for our latest campaign, Operation Jairo II. This is our largest sea turtle defense campaign to date and we need your help to support our ground crew in three countries, to save endangered sea turtles.  Help us save these amazing creatures that have called our oceans "home" since dinosaurs roamed the Earth over 500 million years ago. While humans are the biggest threat to sea turtles, we also hold the key to their survival. Donate Now >

Sea Shepherd joins with marine scientists to study the effects of microplastics on whales in the Gulf of California.

by Oona Layolle, Captain/Campaign Leader

Whale research. Photo: Mike RigneyIn Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s latest scientific research campaign, we are studying the toxicology levels in whales in the Gulf of California. We are working with marine scientists from the Universidad de Baja California Sur, Italy and United State of America to conduct the first studies regarding the toxicology of microplastics and pollution in the Gulf of California.

The campaign is focused on both legitimate and ethical research.  It directly confronts those scientists, and those who call themselves scientists, who are more concerned with destroying life and ecosystems than with helping increase scientific knowledge.  Sea Shepherd Conservation Society only supports studies that utilize nonlethal methods for collection and using data, that is, studies that best protect this planet.
