Campaign leaders to greet MY Steve Irwin in Broome
The Steve Irwin is scheduled to arrive into Broome on Monday 6th of August with the first trips out to James Price Point on Tuesday 7th of August. The tours aim to showcase to the world the immense calving that occurs in the James Price Point (Walmadan) are, right where Woodside want to place their massive gas factories. Walmadan is the Goolarabooloo name for the James Price Point area of the Dampier Peninsula. Walmadan was also a powerful man at the beginning of the 20th century who was head of his tribal group and a fierce protector of his people and their country. Today this country can be walked following the traditional song cycle where ancient middens and camp sites are found. After walking through country with the Goolarabooloo people, one is said to become passionate about this remarkable coastline. There are sacred places in this world that should not be scarred with the ugliness of greed and disrespect for nature. This proposed industrial port and LNG plant is disrespectful to the original peoples of this country and to the original marine species whose descendants still thankfully grace these waters with their beauty and elegance. - Captain Paul Watson |
