Worldfest 2006 - L.A.'s Largest Earth Day Event April 22, 2005 - Woodley Park in Van Nuys, CA Once again Sea Shepherd had a strong presence at WorldFest, which was held on Earth Day - Saturday, April 22nd. Thousands of people attended the all-vegan event, which featured over 120 different environmental, animal rights, and peace groups.
After the speech, Captain Watson did a book signing at the Sea Shepherd booth. Thanks to the Captain being there, we sold a good amount of books and had a big line-up of people eager to meet him. After the book signing, he then participated on a panel in the Eco-Tent where he discussed the environmental problems related to overfishing and longlines. Merchandise sales were fantastic for this type of event and hundreds of people walked away more informed about the plight of the oceans and what we are doing to intervene. We had a huge crowd gathered throughout the day and we were showing the latest Antarctica Whale Campaign video. Working hard at our table we had Kurt Lieber from the SSCS Board of Directors, along with veteran crewmembers Allison Lance-Watson, Colin Biroc, and International Director Jonny Vasic. Volunteers Kevin Ollin and Jeffrey Keene were a major help and worked the table all day long. Report by Jonny Vasic, International Director
