Philadelphia Chapter Onshore Volunteer Training
November 10, 2011 - February 5, 2012
In an effort to accommodate the increasing interest from the greater Philadelphia area SSCS supporters to work as Onshore Volunteers, Sea Shepherd Philadelphia took a different approach to Volunteer Training. From November 10th to February 5th, multiple sessions were held to train new volunteers. Smaller, more individualized sessions provided the ability to ensure proper learning and communication of the mission, methods and policies. As a result, Sea Shepherd Philadelphia is entering 2012 with 53 solid volunteers who will work events throughout the year.
At the end of the sessions, we took the opportunity to develop relationships between the volunteers during a casual "Drinks and Games Night" at a local Dave and Buster's restaurant. This provided 45 of the volunteers who were able to attend the ability to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. These dedicated volunteers surprised the Coordinators as they came prepared with donations, ready to purchase merchandise, and ready to become DAC members making this "party" a very successful fundraiser!
Sea Shepherd Philadelphia is proud of the volunteers who have been with us from the start and who continue to devote their time and energy, and we're also proud of the overwhelming response from new volunteers who are ready to learn and who are now prepared to begin spreading the mission and raising funds for Sea Shepherd!
