Cruelty-Free Lifestyle Festival
Fremantle, Australia
The Sea Shepherds of Perth and Fremantle participated in the Cruelty Free Lifestyle Festival which was organized by PAWS (People and Animal Welfare Society) on March 17, 2007.
This popular event was held in the pleasant at the historic Fremantle Art's Centre, where ten local animal rights groups were represented.
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society was well represented. Four new volunteers - Stephen Quayle, Gavin Storey, Nathan Bottoms, and Stephen Bennett - helped to tell visitors about the various Sea Shepherd campaigns.
We collected dozens of signatures for a petition requesting the Australian Government to take a more active role in protecting the Antarctic whale sanctuary. This petition is supported by Her Worship the Mayor, Katherine Jackson of the City of Melville, and the Honorable Dr. Carmen Lawrence (MP) for the City of Fremantle.
We listened to speakers from the various groups represented, including our new member Stephen Quayle, who gave a stirring presentation about his search for a way he could make a difference: by protecting animals and their threatened environments.
We thank Heath Marshall (from PAWS) who organized the festival, and David Reynolds (President of Paws) and our generous sponsors: The Fremantle Arts Centre, Crumpler, Picasso Print, The Big Issue, Tinderbox, and Vegan Voice.
The festival was truly a celebration of caring people committed to making a positive difference to the lives of the animals we share this planet with.
