Captain Paul Watson at Colorado College
Colorado Springs
Reported by Danielle Olivas, Colorado Chapter Coordinator
In celebration of Earth Day, Colorado College invited Captain Watson to speak to the students and general public about the significance of saving our ocean ecosystem, because of its importance in supporting our entire planet. The event was free and open to the public. It was held on campus at Armstrong Theatre.
The evening began with a book signing and meet-and-greet. Lots of Sea Shepherd Colorado supporters and students of the college came out to participate. Captain Watson gave a riveting lecture to a packed house of approximately 600 people. The lecture lasted over an hour and was followed by a very active Q&A session. After the Q&A, all attendees were treated to a nice reception provided by the college.
I’d like to send a special thanks to Sea Shepherd onshore volunteers Paul Rose and Mary Rose for their help with education and outreach at the event. And to former crew member Matt Smith and onshore volunteer Jim Drevescraft for coming out. Most of all, I’d like to thank Sharon Neely of Colorado College. The evening could not have been made possible without her energy and organization or the sponsorship of the Timothy C. Linnemann Lecture Series and the Colorado College Environmental Program. Thank you to everyone who made this evening a success!
