Bartram River Cleanup, Philadelphia, PA

On Tuesday, July 26, Sea Shepherd Philadelphia joined forces with Philadelphia-based organization United By Blue for a monthly river clean up. United By Blue is a organization which balances the sales of their organic cotton T-shirts and tote bags to coordinate ocean beach clean-ups around America. For each shirt or bag purchased, one pound of marine debris is said to be collected. Brian Linton the creator of this group, believes that, "Because the oceans are so vast and deep, consumers have the mentality of 'out of sight, out of mind' and this needs to change."

The clean up took place on the river's edge, at Bartram's Garden, one of the oldest living botanical gardens in the US. Leading the team for Sea Shephered Philadelphia were volunteers Simmone Bray and Biaggo Comeriato. Thanks to the help of all the compassionate volunteers that came along to lend a hand, the total weight of trash picked up off the banks of the river that day was 352 lbs!
