Animal Rights 2008
August 15 - 17, 2008
AR is a regularly attended conference for Sea Shepherd and a chance to see old friends and introduce new people to our work. Sea Shepherd had a strong presence again this year with a double table run by Sea Shepherd staff and crew. The highlight of the conference was Captain Watson's surprise arrival and his dynamic speech at the Saturday night fundraising dinner. We were very busy at the table throughout the conference and for the first time ever, we asked people to join the Direct Action Crew and enticed them by offering a copy of the 30 Years on the Frontline DVD as incentive and this was a huge success!
Sea Shepherd staff and crew tirelessly worked the table throughout the conference selling merchandise and signing up more new supporters! Staff Directors; Kim McCoy, Alex Earl, Jonny Vasic and Kristine Vasic all presented on panels which also increased our presence at the conference. Jonny Vasic also showed the short documentary, 30 Years on the Frontline: Sea Shepherd Campaigns 1977-2007 and Kim McCoy presented the Shark Angels video. Veteran crew members Shannon Mann and Laura Dakin shared their experiences from past Sea Shepherd campaigns with visitors at the exhibit table. Captain Watson's Saturday night speech, helped raise necessary funds split between Sea Shepherd and FARM at the fundraising banquet. Another successful AR conference!
