Captain Watson Receives Standing Ovation for Key Note Speech at Animal Rights 2007

Captain Paul Watson gives Key Note Speech

Captain Paul Watson was the celebrated Key Note speaker at the Awards Banquet for the 2007 Animal Rights Conference, during which he discussed the past campaign defending whales in Antarctica as well as current activities in the Galapagos including major shark-finning and struggles the animal rights community faces. He was received with thunderous applause and a standing ovation. Captain Watson was very involved with this year's conference, from speaking on a panel titled "Enforcing Protective Laws" to participating in a plenary about human population growth to signing books and meeting with supporters at the Sea Shepherd exhibit table.

Sea Shepherd staff and supporters gathered in Los Angeles, California for the world's largest and oldest animal rights conference. Animal Rights 2007 is the animal rights movement's annual national conference. It is a forum for sharing knowledge, reporting on progress, discussing strategies and tactics, networking, and "recharging our batteries."

From July 19-23 at the conference, Sea Shepherd participated in panel discussions, attended speaking engagements, sold merchandise and spoke with supporters at our exhibit table, enjoyed the vegan buffet offered by the hotel, and networked with hundreds of compassionate individuals dedicated to animal rights.

International Director Jonny Vasic spoke on several panels pertaining to Sea Shepherd's actions to protect ocean wildlife on the high seas. These included such topics as "Applying Direct Action," "Reports on Wildlife Campaigns," "Abuse of Wildlife in Water," and "Effective Tactics for Wildlife." Jonny also presented critical film Blood on the Ice about the 2005 seal campaign. The film was received enthusiastically and was followed by a question and answer session with Captain Paul Watson.

Thank you personally to all of our wonderful volunteers who assisted us at the conference: Colin Biroc, Anna Mercken, Lisa Walden, Justin Hand, Kevin Olliff, and Kristy Anderson. I appreciate all your hard work for Sea Shepherd on behalf of ocean wildlife worldwide!
