SSCS Equality and Namibia

seal and pupSea Shepherd Conservation Society operates internationally without prejudice towards race, color, nationality, religious belief, or any other consideration except for an impartial adherence to upholding international conservation law to protect endangered marine species and ecosystems.

Those profiting from the illegal operations we oppose routinely accuse Sea Shepherd of being anti-Japanese, anti-Native American, Anti-African, anti-Canadian, anti-Scandinavian, etc, for our stance against their illegal killing of marine life.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Sea Shepherd does not oppose Japanese or Norwegian people or cultures, but we do strongly oppose the illegal whaling and violations of international conservation law conducted by a small percentage of those populations. Similarly, we have nothing against Canadians or Namibians. There are very few people in Canada and Namibia that participate in the killing of seals. Science and common sense show us that continued predation of seal colonies will further destabilize seal populations and negatively impact the ecosystems that seals-and we-are dependent upon. It is for these reasons, as well as to enforce international conservation law, that Sea Shepherd stands against the barbaric seal kills of Namibia and Canada.

Sea Shepherd operates outside the petty cultural chauvinisms and anthropocentric attitudes of humanity. Our clients are whales, dolphins, seals, turtles, sea birds, fish, and other ocean life. We represent their interests.

Our volunteer crewmembers come from all over the world including regions that we are forced to take action against such as Japan, Norway, Africa, and Canada.

We are not "anti-" any nationality or culture. We are pro-Ocean and we work in the interests of all life on Earth...including humans. We only oppose criminals and their illegal operations.

- Sea Shepherd campaigns are guided by the United Nations World Charter for Nature. Sections 21-24 of the Charter authorize individuals and groups to act on behalf of and enforce international conservation laws. - Sea Shepherd cooperates fully with all international law enforcement agencies, and our enforcement activities comply with standard practices of law and policing enforcement. - Sea Shepherd adheres to stringent non-violent principles at all times, and has always taken a stand against violence in the protection of the oceans. - The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is dedicated to working towards cooperative agreements between nations to protect species and habitats, as documented in our Mandate.
