Report from Taiji: October 6

We will be ready. John and Jackie Legg from Manchester, England joined us today. We are expecting four additional Cove Guardians to join us tomorrow. It is good to see that folks are putting their lives on hold and are responding to the call for help. It truly does make a difference when the fishermen, the authorities, and the people of Japan see that we are not alone. We observed the dolphin holding pens in Taiji Harbor from a different vantage point today and counted at least 10 dolphins being held there. They are awaiting their “sale” and transportation to a life of misery. Who are these men and women who think they can ethically trade in the lives of other self-aware sentient creatures? John Newton was such a person until he saw the light. He went on to write the song “Amazing Grace.” May the trainers, brokers, and the public who support the dolphin trade find their own epiphanies similar to the one Ric O’Barry had, and join the work to end this nonsense. There is no question in my mind that the trade in dolphins is morally reprehensible. We need your help. Spread the word, send donations, join in the international day of protest, and avoid all travel to Japan except to become a Cove Guardian with us here in Taiji.
