Operation Infinite Patience: February 20, 2014 - March 4, 2014

Overall, the month of February has been a positive month for the dolphins with only two slaughters. For several days, the attempts of the killers were plagued by rough seas and ocean storms, severely impacting their ability to search for wild dolphins. Cove Guardians meticulously monitor the banger boats at sea and it is a comfort to see the killers struggle in their search of dolphins due to poor weather. Unfortunately, on February 20, 2014, the dolphin killers located a massive pod of Striped Dolphins whilst they were returning to ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: January 29th - February 18th, 2014

January 29, 2014 On January 29, four Pantropical spotted dolphins were transported out of Taiji. About 11:00am, the killers and trainers were observed by Cove Guardians as they transferred four Pantropical Spotted Dolphins by skiff across the harbor. Each dolphin was contained in a tight sling strung over the side of the skiff as it completed a slow transit over the harbor toward a truck parked at the Fishermen’s Union. Each sling was carried onto the truck as the killers struggled to handle each 120kg (265 lb) do ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: January 5th - 14th, 2014

It has been a blood bath in Taiji this week - within 9 days, approximately 176 dolphins were viciously murdered for human consumption, and 24 dolphins were taken captive for a life of imprisonment. During this first week of 2014, we have had a total of 18 Cove Guardians from 8 different countries on the ground in Taiji to document the atrocities. We have improved our Live Stream capabilities with new HD cameras and additions to our website http://livestream.seashepherd.org. We continue to be a strong presence here in Taiji. Operation Infinite Patience: November 23 - December 4, 2013

The atrocities committed against the dolphins of Taiji have only continued to grow throughout the current season. Again and again the killers, who claim tradition for their barbaric actions, have proven that they are involved in the slaughter for greed, not for cultural legacy. On November 23, the killers were thirsty for blood as they drove a pod of 30-40 Striped dolphins for over three hours into the hellish cove. As the pod was netted off and driven further towards the killing shore, members of the pod sensed their imminent doom ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: November 8 - 20, 2013

November 8, 2013 We had a record-breaking 29 days of “Blue Cove” — nearly a month without kidnapping, murdering and butchering of dolphins or small whales in the killing cove of Taiji — but on this morning, it all came to a bloody end. Like a bad dream that will just never end, this drive lasted more than six hours. A pod of nine Risso’s dolphins was discovered North of Taiji, just below the horizon, as the killers were desperate to end their many failed attempts to find dolphins. These Risso’s fo ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: October 4 - 28, 2013

October 4th, 2013 October 4th saw the end to fifteen consecutive blue cove days. After a three-and-a-half hour struggle, a pod of 60-70 Pilot whales were successfully netted off into the killing cove. The dolphin killers then held the family of Pilot whales in the tiny killing cove for two days due to adverse weather conditions. The family, mainly consisting of juveniles and babies, fought for two days against the thrashing waves and tide, starved without any food. October 6th, 2013 On this date, the dolphin killers brutally sla ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: September 20 - 29, 2013

September 20th, 2013. In the early hours of the morning, 11 killing boats departed Taiji harbor to search for dolphins. As the boats returned to the cove empty-handed, skiffs holding dolphin killers in dive suits were departing Taiji harbor. Our Cove Guardians manning the harbour followed the skiffs to a nearby beach in northern Taiji. They discovered a lone juvenile Pilot Whale, most likely a victim of one of the previous whale drives. She had swam to the shore, possibly in search of slaughtered family members. The whale appeared ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: September 20, 2013

September 11th, 2013: This day marked the first Pilot Whale drive and impending slaughter of the Taiji, 2013-2014 dolphin drive season. On this morning all twelve killing boats left Taiji Harbor to hunt for small whales and dolphins; and at an early time of 7:18 am, with rough and choppy seas, ten of the killing boats located a pod of Pilot Whales. The drive was painfully slow as the Pilot Whales fought incredibly hard to escape the piercing hammering of the banger poles, after approximately 6 hours, 30-35 Pilot Whales were netted i ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: September 10, 2013

As the fourth season of Operation Infinite Patience commences here in Taiji, the dolphin drive season so far has proven to be nothing less than profitable for the Taiji Fisherman’s Union and all those involved in the dolphin captive trade. On September 1, 2013, the dolphin killers did not waste time as they spotted a large pod of 60-70 Bottlenose dolphins. As the pod was netted into the cove, hundred of activists and volunteers, both local and international, showed their support for Japan Dolphin Day where they voiced their op ... Read More

Operation Infinite Patience: February 21, 2013

The blood lust and greed in Taiji come to a climax as the killers refuse to stop, even after they reach their kill quota. Inhumanity and greed are not limited to the confines of the Cove.  Their presence is seen and certainly felt by the dolphins that are held prisoner within the captive facilities throughout Taiji. The killers of Taiji have been working hand-in-hand with trainers from the Taiji Whale Museum, Dolphin Base, and Hotel Dolphin Resort throughout the season to rearrange the pens located in the Taiji Harbor. Februa ... Read More
