Sea Shepherd’s newest chapter, Sea Shepherd Seattle, embarked on their first event at the Dive and Travel Expo in Tacoma! This annual event, held at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center focused on “everything underwater,” such as new diving technology, marine photography, and travel, and consisted of over 300 booths, hourly seminars, and even a dive pool for newcomers to try out breathing underwater. Although the weekend started off slow, the weekend proved to be a great success.
Sea Shepherd Deputy CEO Chuck Swift and Cove Guardian Scott West were both present at this two-day event meeting the public, answering questions, and holding seminars. The onshore volunteers of the Seattle Chapter, headed up by Suzanne West, were also present to sell Sea Shepherd merchandise, take donations, and spread the word about our mission. They had the opportunity to meet people from all over the country and talk to many visitors who had never even heard of Sea Shepherd or Whale Wars!
I’d like to send a huge “Thank You” to all of our Seattle onshore volunteers that helped with this event, whether it was selling merchandise, educating the public, or just setting up the booth. Those on hand included: Isobel Alexander, Rebecca Bolte, Stacy Elsberry, Shelby Hight, David Lundquist, and Carol Mahoney. Hopefully, we’ll see you all there next year!
