Another victory in the Southern Ocean! Operation Divine Wind has come to an end. We are grateful for your support.

Divine Wind:

2011-2012 Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign

8th expedition to oppose the illegal activities of the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean

768 Whales SAVED
…Swimming Free in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary

During the past eight campaigns, we have saved the lives of over 3,600 whales and exposed illegal Japanese whaling activities to the entire world. This season, we were able to save more whales than the Japanese whalers were able to kill. Seven hundred and sixty-eight (768) whales are alive and swimming in the sea because you enabled us to intervene by supporting our ships and crews.

A Thank You from Captain Paul Watson

Operation Divine Wind Results

Operation Divine Wind Dates

Steve Irwin: December 16, 2011 - March 6, 2012
Bob Barker: December 16, 2011 - March 14, 2012
Brigitte Bardot: December 21, 2011 - January 6, 2012

By the Numbers:

17,000 = Number of miles that Sea Shepherd chased the whaling fleet

At any one time, 2 to 3 Japanese ships were pulled out of the hunt in order to chase Sea Shepherd vessels

3 = Number of months we chased the Japanese whaling fleet
2 = Number of weeks we cut their whaling season short

ICR quota for the whaling fleet

935 Minkes
50 Fin
50 Humpback
Total - 1,035 whales

Actual whales killed

266 Minkes
1 Fin (Endangered)
0 Humpback
Total - 267 = 26% of quota

768 = Number of whales saved

The Japanese Whaling Fleet needed to make 80% of their quota just to break even. 80% would have been 828 whales.

Our goal is to sink the Japanese Whaling Fleet economically. To date, the ICR is about $200 million in debt.  If the whaling fleet returns next year, Sea Shepherd will be ready.

With your support, we hope to lower the kill number to 0!  Please help us in this effort!
