Byron Bay
2012 Upcoming Events:
April 7th - 9th Byron Bay's 23rd Annual Bluesfest
Tyagarah Tea tree Farm, (Just 9 kilometres North of Byron Bay).
Bluesfest remains one of Australia's most acclaimed and respected Festivals and has been the inspiration for dozens of blues world music and blues and roots festivals around Australia. Bluesfest defines a new way of describing the wide group of music that was blues music, world music, roots music, a hybrid of those and other cultural styles under one umbrella - Blues & Roots Music. This catapulted Blues & Roots Music - a non-pop music style into the mainstream, whereby the Aria awards within 12 months created the Blues & Roots category as one of their major awards. This is unique to Australia as in the Grammy awards (USA) and the Brit awards (UK) do not have a Blues & Roots award category. Bluesfest has continued to evolve in the new decade, incorporating surf culture, Latino Music, African Music, political and environmental message artists.
The Byron Bay chapter of Sea Shepherd will be there again this year, so come on over to the festival and show your support to the hardworking Adam and his awesome Byron volunteers. They will have Operation Divine Wind merchandise for sale and would love to chat about the current campaign.

November 23rd & 26th, 2011 Captain Paul Watson's visit to Byron Bay
In a first for Sea Shepherd Byron Bay, two fundraising events were held over one week in November. The first was a show at The Great Northern Hotel that featured amazing bands - Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother who did an exclusive acoustic set, Krash (Ash Grunwald and Kram from Spiderbait), The Grains and Dallas Frasca & Her Gentlemen. All artists graciously took time out from tours and most travelled from interstate to be involved. Then on the Saturday, The Own & Pussycat held an exclusive meet and greet with Captain Paul Watson. This was a sell-out event and because it was so intimate, guests were able to speak one-on-one with Captain Watson, asking him questions while snacking on vegetarian finger food. The highlight of the night was when Captain Watson inspiringly spoke about the upcoming Operation Divine Wind and the importance of saving the world’s oceans. The always-supportive Byron crowds ensured both events were overwhelming successes and generously contributed financially to the upcoming campaign.

October 31, 2010 Aye Aye Captain! Sea Shepherd Fundraiser - Stone and Wood Brewery, Byron Bay
The recent Byron Bay fundraiser for Sea Shepherd's upcoming Antarctic campaign, Operation No Compromise was a huge success. The Stone and Wood Brewery was bursting at the seams with over 350 people in attendance and special guest artists including Xavier Rudd, Heart Tribe, In2nation, Loren and the Grow your Owns and many more. Paul Watson spoke about the issues currently faced by marine life worldwide, and how individuals can make a difference in protecting and caring for our oceans. Cetacean conservation films, including a film from Byron Bay's talented young underwater filmmaker, Madison Stewart were also on show, along with a poem written and read by one of our youngest Sea Shepherd supporters, Isabel Dow.
The event, MC'd by Karl Goodsell also marked the second anniversary for the Sea Shepherd Byron Bay Chapter Leader Adam Shostak. The night raised valuable funds for Operation No Compromise and also iterated the important issues around the world that need to be addressed in order to protect the planets most vital asset - our ocean.

November 21, 2006 Sea Shepherd Celebration - Byron Bay Community Centre
